Highway 16 is now re-open to traffic following a closure caused by a leak of a natural gas line adjacent to the highway.
Below is the original story from this morning.
Traffic is backing up on Highway 16 in Terrace following a gas leak reported this morning.
The leak was reported at the Frank St. railway crossing intersection with the highway just west of town.
Terrace RCMP officers and members of the Terrace fire department are at the location.
“The leak was caused by crews working in the area who promptly reported the incident,” reads a report from the RCMP this morning.
Work crews at the location are getting ready to install traffic crossing lights and to improve the intersection generally to make it safer for vehicle and train traffic.
Currently a Pacific Northern Gas (PNG) response unit has been sent to fix the gas leak, says the report.
There is no alternative route for vehicles to take, but PNG says the leak should be fixed within a short period of time.
