HWY 16 is now back to all lanes open west of the city after a tree that fell across the westbound lanes was cut up and moved off the road this morning.
For about one-and-a-half hours, vehicles had to stop for flaggers and go around the downed tree as single lane alternating traffic about 25 km west of Terrace, just past the Shames Mt. turnoff.
Jim Salter of Billabong, who was using a chainsaw to break up the tree, said he believed it fell because its roots had rotted.
As of about 12:30 p.m., DriveBC announced the road was clear.
