Three dead following Friday morning collision near Onion Lake

The incident took place at 9:14 a.m. on Mar. 11 between Onion Lake ski trails and Onion Lake.

The RCMP reported three people dead following a collision that shut down Hwy 37 on Friday, March 11 at 9:14 a.m. near Onion Lake ski trails between Kitimat and Terrace.

The initial investigation indicated that a passenger vehicle headed northbound toward Terrace crossed the centre line and struck a southbound commercial vehicle.

The three occupants of the passenger vehicles which included two youth were pronounced dead at the scene. Hwy 37 was then closed for several hours while RCMP traffic reconstructionist attended the scene.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends and school community affected by this incident,” said Sgt. Graham Morgan. “It is a great loss for our northwest B.C. community.”

The investigation, which is being conducted by Kitimat RCMP and the BC Coroners Service, is still ongoing.
