BC HYDRO has flown up transmission workers from the Lower Mainland to augment local crews working to restore power to the Nass Valley, Meziadin and Stewart.
Thousands of people have been been without power since Tuesday evening when a 55-foot tall transmission tower toppled over on a rock bluff near Lava Lake, just south of the Nass Valley and 70km north of the BC Hydro's Skeena Substation.
“At this point the focus is on restoration efforts. No definitive cause has been identified,” said Dave Mosure from BC Hydro this morning.
“Adverse weather initially hampered efforts to identify the problem. Fixing the problem is also proving to be challenging due to the weather and because the tower is in mountainous terrain in a remote area that is only accessible by helicopter,” he added.
The provincial crown corporation has nine workers assigned to the problem and can call in more if needed, Mosure said.
