Terrace RCMP responded to about 354 calls for service between Dec. 5 and Dec. 18. Ongoing mischief at local dealerships, an unknown driver colliding with a bus, break-and-enter and theft stand out.
Erratic driver collides with bus on Hwy 16
On the evening of Dec. 11, police responded to a report of a hit and run involving a bus and possible black or blue SUV. The suspect vehicle was reported to have crossed the center line, swiping the side of the bus and leaving scratches down the side. A mirror believed to be from the suspect vehicle was left behind. The suspect did not stop and has not been identified at this time. No injuries were reported in this incident.
Break-and-enter and theft
Between the hours of 4:00 am and 5:00 am on Dec. 14, a building was broken into on the 4400 block of Legion Ave. Police say one suspect broke a window to gain access to the back of the building. Electronic equipment was reported stolen and RCMP continue to investigate.
Mischief to vehicles at local dealerships “ongoing concern”
Another round of vehicles have had windows smashed at a local car dealership in Terrace. On Dec.17, police received a report of three vehicles having windows smashed and being rummaged through. RCMP have not yet identified a suspect.
Also on Dec. 16, one vehicle at an alternate dealership was also broken into by smashing a window. The suspect in this incident is also yet unknown to police. RCMP can’t yet confirm if the two cases are related or if the suspects are the same.
Excessive speeder near Jack Pine
On the afternoon of Dec. 17, an officer observed a vehicle travelling at an excessive rate of speed and radar was locked in at a speed of 109 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone in the Jack Pine area on Old Lakelse Lake Drive. The driver was issued a speeding ticket and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Police say family was contacted to provide the driver with a ride home.
Suspicious pair in back yard
On Dec.14, Terrace RCMP received a report from a resident of suspicious people lurking in his back yard during the night. Two unidentified people were going through backyards in the 4700 block of Olson Ave. Police say the man did not notice anything missing from his property and the pair was scared off. RCMP are reminding the public to keep their valuables put away and keep storage areas locked up to help prevent would-be-thieves from making off with their possessions.
