The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 243 calls between Aug. 22 and Aug. 28. Ninety of those calls happened over the weekend from Friday to Sunday.
Motel disturbance: Man arrested after vehicle theft while dog inside
In the late hours of Aug. 26, police received a report of a stolen his vehicle from a parking lot that had been left running with the owner’s dog inside. The suspect had caused a disturbance inside a motel office, throwing things, after which, he exited the office, got into the running vehicle, and drove off with the dog inside. Police found the stolen vehicle and arrested the man for possession of stolen property. The man was given a court date and the vehicle and dog were returned to the owner.
Theft and vandalism: Vehicle break-ins, smashed windows, break and enter arrest
Also on Aug. 24 a man reported that his work truck was broken into while he was staying at a local hotel. A window was smashed out of the truck to gain access and valuable property was stolen. Most of the items were recovered in a nearby field, however an orange duffel bag containing climbing gear was never recovered. On the same date, a second report was received of two vehicles having their windows smashed at a car dealership. Contents of the vehicles were unknown at the time of the report.
Later in the week Terrace RCMP received a report of a man trying to break into a City of Terrace work vehicle with a crow bar. The witness obtained a photo which was shown to police and the suspect was recognized by the officer.
There was damage to the side of that vehicle and another nearby vehicle was found with smashed windows, and yet another nearby lawn tractor with smashed windows as well. Officers made patrols for the suspect, eventually locating the man who was still in possession of the crow bar. He was arrested on several offences and released on an undertaking with a court date Two days later, the same man was located in a fenced compound area, actively committing a break and enter. He was arrested again and held in custody for a bail hearing.
Driving infractions: Court date for alleged drunk driving in George Little Park
The morning of Aug. 24 police received a report of an impaired man driving his pick up in the middle of George Little Park. Police located the truck and the driver refused to provide a breath sample. He was served a 90-day driving prohibition and the truck is impounded for 30 days.
That same morning police observed a vehicle travelling west bound on Keith Ave. Checks on the vehicle showed that the registered owner of the vehicle was prohibited from driving. The officer confirmed that the driver was prohibited after a traffic stop. The driver was given a court date and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
On Aug. 26, an RCMP BC Highway Patrol officer pulled over a black sedan on Hwy 16 west driving at a speed of 148 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone. The woman was an N driver, she was issued a speeding ticket and the vehicle impounded for seven days. The driver waited and left the scene in a taxi.
Man survives overdose in downtown parking lot
At around 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26, police were flagged down by two people in a downtown parking lot. They were assisting one unresponsive man who was displaying symptoms of a drug overdose. Two canisters of Narcan had already been administered and the man eventually regained consciousness. EHS found the man’s vitals to be stable and hospital attendance not required.
