Terrace RCMP is warning the public of an increased incidence of theft and break-in activities south of the CN railway tracks this week.
The police said they responded to an unusually high number of those crimes in commercial areas since Jan. 10.
“Businesses have had glass doors or windows shattered to gain entry, valuables stolen, as well as vehicles being broken into,” said the RCMP in a Jan. 14 statement.
Police said they are investigating these events and the forensics unit has been engaged.
In the meantime, the RCMP is asking business owners to review their security measures:
- Ensure that security systems are in working order
- Consider security systems with audible alarms as a deterrent
- Check that camera systems are set up with correct dates and times
- Pay attention to suspicious people who may be inside your business during the day, they may be there to survey the layout and merchandise for a later time
- Do not leave valuables in your vehicles
- Consider an anti-theft device for your vehicle
- Secure licence plates with bolts
- Don’t keep spare keys for your vehicle in the vehicle
If anyone notices suspicious activity or has information about these events, they can contact the Terrace RCMP at 250-638-7400 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
