One man has been arrested and has now been charged with several counts relating to possession of property obtained by crime and theft under $5,000.

Walter Bowman has been remanded in custody with police saying he was arrested during early hours of Jan. 13 on Keith Ave.

Earlier this month police warned the public of an increased number of break and enters and thefts in the commercial areas of the Southside since the beginning of the year.

Police say Bowman was stopped by a police officer as he struggled to pull a wagon full of items through the snow.

Bowman, who is known to police, failed to provide a convincing explanation as to where he got all the items from, police said in a release.

The officer suspected the items to be stolen and seized them for further investigation.

“A short time later, the RCMP received a report from a local business that two vehicles had been broken into during the night. They also reported that the suspect had been caught on video putting stolen property into a wagon,” the police added in a statement.

Following further investigation , the police received addition reports about Bowman, which prompted them to locate and arrest him.

The charges are Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Theft under $5000, Mischief and Possession of break in instruments.

RCMP are continuing to investigate other recent reports of a similar nature and are asking public with more information about these events or if they notice suspicious activity to contact the Terrace RCMP at 250-638-7400 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
