The provincial government is distributing gaming grant funding to more than 1,300 school advisory councils, with several in the Terrace area making the list.

Parent advisory councils (PAC) and district parent advisory councils (DPAC) are organizations made up of parents that provide feedback about school programs, activities and plans, promote parental involvement in schools, fundraise for extracurricular activities and more.

Those councils use provincial gaming grants for a variety of purposes, such as putting on musical and theatrical productions, funding clubs and hosting social gatherings.

“Extracurricular activities are so important for students so they can connect with their friends and maintain their physical, social and mental health,” said Jennifer Whiteside, Minister of Education, in a media release.

“PACs and DPACs across the province provide a wide range of extracurricular activities for students, allowing them to build new friendships, develop life skills and share more experiences together.”
