Terrace minor softball teams won big at the 2021 Softball BC Provincial Championships for U12, U14, U16 and U19 held in Barriere July 9-11.

The tournament – which resumed this summer after a pandemic induced break – saw 16 teams from four divisions and numerous communities across B.C. compete.

Terrace’s U12 team won the silver medal and the U14, U16, and U19 teams secured gold.

While the past couple seasons had to be cancelled in Terrace due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the teams were able to practice for a month before the provincials, said Tracy Kinney who is on the board of the Terrace Minor Softball.

“The Terrace players were outstanding especially after no training for over two years and with only five weeks to practice as a team,” said Kinney, who travelled to Barriere for the games.

The U12 was coached by Mitch Mowbray and Lisa Pushong, U14 by Lorne Wallington and Les Kutenics, U16 by Jorde Edmonds, Ryan Praticante and U19 by Bruce Neid, Kenny Geisbrecht and Darcy Zloklikovits.

The regular softball season is expected to start next year, as provincial health regulations ease.
