Terrace mayor takes on new position

Dave Pernarowski now working for a Vancouver-based public relations company

TERRACE mayor Dave Pernarowski has a new job.

He's left Kitsault Energy, a company promoting the establishment of liquefied natural gas facilities at the former mining community of Kitsault on the north coast, for a position with the Vancouver public relations firm of PR Associates.

The firm has opened a Terrace office where Pernarowski will be employed as a manager, it said in a release today.

"The northern regions of the province are the economic powerhouses for the next generation of British Columbians. We pride ourselves on our work in the communities where our business is generated,” said PR Associates president Robert Simpson in the release of the reason it is setting up shop in Terrace.

Simpson said Pernarowski is well-suited to his new position.

“He embodies our organization's commitment to socially responsible natural resource development,” Simpson continued.

PR Associates describes itself as “Canada's premier natural resource – mining, forestry, energy, oil and gas, transportation, and pipeline – public relations firm.”

Pernarowski said he was looking forward to his new position.

“It is a priority for me to ensure local people and companies in northern British Columbia benefit from the natural resource sector,” he said.

Pernarowski was first elected to Terrace council in a 2007 byelection before being elected mayor in 2008 and again in 2011.

He has so far not indicated if he will run for a third term as mayor in the upcoming November civic elections.

Pernarowski had been with Kitsault Energy for just over a year.
