Terrace mayor makes refinery statement

Terrace's mayor Dave Pernarowski sent an e-mail today with a statement about David Black's $13 billion oil refinery plans.

Today, Black Press owner David Black announced his plans for a $13 billion oil refinery in B.C.'s northwest.

In an e-mailed statement, Terrace's mayor Dave Pernarowski responded to the news:

“The City of Terrace is always open to new business and job creation opportunities. Mr. Black is a highly respected and successful businessman in B.C. and, as the owner of one of our key media outlets, the Terrace Standard, he is a valued member of our growing business community.”

“At this time, we don’t know enough about the project to comment one way or another about it, but we look forward to working with Mr. Black in the future and engaging with our citizens regarding any major investments that could create jobs and help grow our amazing city.”

Pernarowski later commented in a phone interview that he would like time to review the proposal in depth before commenting further.

Black met with Terrace's city council July 24 to discuss his plans.
