Kitimat fire chief John Klie has been named as Terrace's new fire chief.
Klie, who is retiring after 36 years of service with the Kitimat fire department, was officially hired May 20 and will begin his stint in Terrace July 4.
Klie has been Kitimat's fire chief for the past six years, and served as deputy fire chief for five years before that. He has decades of experience in the industry, having started his career in the Kitimat fire department in 1975.
He'll be overseeing the eight paid firefighters and 26 volunteer firefighters in Terrace's fire department.
Klie replaces former Terrace fire chief Peter Weeber, who stepped down from the position earlier this year, and was chosen from 29 applicants for the job.
His last day of work in Kitimat is June 24.
