Campgrounds in the Terrace area continue to be affected by COVID-19 safety measures.

The City of Terrace has extended the closure of Ferry Island Campground to May 31, bringing it into alignment with all B.C. provincial parks, including Lakelse Lake Provincial Park, which are closed entirely until the end of May.

However, City of Terrace trails are still open, including those on Ferry Island.

“There are more than 8 km of trails on Ferry Island to help users maintain proper physical distancing,” reads a bulletin on the City of Terrace website.

Construction work continues at Furlong Bay Campground in Lakelse Lake Provincial Park, which remains closed to the public. The construction project is an upgrade to utility lines at the campground, according to a statement from Johann Chang, spokesperson for the B.C. Ministry of Environment. The campground’s water main is being replaced as well as its electrical connection.

“BC Parks procured the construction of a new 14.4 kV electrical connection from Hwy 37 to replace the old 7.2 kV electrical connection from First Ave,” the statement said.

The construction project is expected to be complete around May 8, well before the park is set to re-open.
