THE HIGHWAY patrol investigated 18 incidents of impaired driving during its Summer Counter Attack Campaign for the entire month of July.

During the month, officers focused on targeting impaired drivers with numerous road blocks and extra awareness by police, said Const. Derek Nicolai of West Pacific Region Traffic Services, Integrated Road Safety Unit.

One of the 18 incidents was a result of a collision, he said.

“Targeting impaired drivers is still one of the strategic priorities of police in efforts to reduce the number of alcohol and drug related crashes in our communities and on our highways,” said Nicolai, adding that other priorities include targeting aggressive drivers and those who don’t wear their seatbelts.
