While the Pacific Northwest Music Festival (PNMF) had to be cancelled this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers still gave performers a chance to show off their talent.
In February, the festival committee invited potential festival participants to submit a video showcasing their performance to be posted on the PNMF website for the public to view.
“The intent was to give students and performers something to work towards and an opportunity to share their talents and artistic development with others,” stated the PNMF in a media release.
“This was not meant to be a competition, there would be no adjudicators, awards, or prizes, it was simply an opportunity to perform.”
More than 160 videos were submitted from performers of all age groups, encompassing all of the disciplines usually present at the festival like piano, dance, strings, speech arts and band.
Several performers from Terrace contributed videos. People can watch Deanna and Matthew McDicken perform a duet, Claire Kim play the piano or view Free Elements Dance’s “Money in the Grave” hip hop 18 and under performance which won the group a trophy at the recent Prince George Dance Festival.
Veritas School in Terrace submitted class music from kindergarten up to grade five, and band performances by both its boys and girls grade six bands. Thornhill Elementary also produced a grade six band performance.

In 2020, the annual two-week Terrace event was cancelled for the first time in its 55 year history.
