Nevermind spring showers - Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Highway 16 connecting Smithers to Terrace on March 22. The advisory ended on Friday morning.

A significant upper low-pressure system off of the B.C. coast is causing a moist easterly flow over the central interior. Cloudy, warmer rain showers are expected to change to snow after midnight with a low of zero degrees.

Between 10 to 20 cm of accumulation along Hwy 16 between Smithers and Terrace before the snow tapers off by Friday morning.

Heavy snowfall can create hazardous driving conditions and impact visibility for commuters. Easterly winds gusting to 70 km per hour can cause blowing snow, particularly over higher terrain where the snow isn’t as wet.

Drive cautiously, and be prepared to adjust to changing road conditions. The weather advisory recommends commuters take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing the snow.

More information on road conditions can be found at www.drivebc.ca.
