City staffers are working on plans to take up a small portion of George Little Park just west of the Terrace Public Library with a small parking lot.
Most of the area taken up would include the gravel laneway that extends to the loading dock attached to the library building there. City communications officer Tyler Clarke said there’s enough room for three to five vehicles, including spots for accessible parking spaces.
“To construct it would require removal of 1-2 trees and utilize a small portion of the lawn area as well as the gravel driveway and loading area,” he said.
Money for construction would come from a specific reserve set up by the city for additional parking spaces.
City staffers estimated that it would cost $10,000 for each parking space.
The laneway itself is now used for parking by city maintenance employees as required and by library staffers.
There are no current reserved accessible parking spaces on Park Ave. in front of the library.
The parking lot plan is on a long list of proposed projects which council is considering as it begins deliberations on its capital and operating budget for this year.
