Crews are on scene to replace a telephone pole and bus stop sign at the intersection of Kalum St. and Lazelle Ave.

Contracted by BC Hydro, Allteck Line Contractors Ltd. began work this morning, March 19.

Traffic is slowed to one-lane down Kalum St. while construction continues. The section of sidewalk past the entrance to Gigi’s Thrift Store and before the Terrace Salvation Army has been closed in the meantime, though both stores are still accessible to shoppers.

The owner of Gigi’s Thrift Store voiced some concern about the lack of notice and noise outside the storefront. Allteck’s Terrace office administrator says the work is short-term and is scheduled to be completed by tomorrow.

“Anytime there’s an outage [local businesses] are notified, but it’s just for a couple of days. It’s considered maintenance,” says Kelly Wood, office administrator.
