Another winter storm watch has been issued for much of B.C.’s northwest.

The watch was issued today (Dec. 30) for the north coast and inland sections which include Kitimat, Terrace, Stewart and communities in the Nass Valley. Hwy 16 and Hwy 37 can also expect to see a significant dumping of snow — 20 to 50 centimetres — with the potential for more than 50 cm of accumulated snow in some inland areas.

The storm is set to cross the Gulf of Alaska and is expected to intensify as it hits the north coast late in the day on Friday. Heavy snowfall will then last from Friday evening to Saturday afternoon followed by flurries which are forecast to last until Sunday afternoon.

Due to significant amounts of snowfall expected along northern highways, travel may be difficult and residents are advised to keep others informed of their schedule and destination.

Public Safety Canada suggests that everyone have an emergency plan in place and have an emergency kit containing water, food, medicine, first-aid supplies and a flashlight.
