Seven people are running for the Coast Mountains school board seat that opened up when Terrace trustee Art Erasmus resigned effective Dec. 31, 2020.

Dave Crawley, Ed Harrison, Peter Lambright, Roger Leclerc, Lynn Parker, Diana Penner and Kate Spangl all want to finish out Erasmus’s four-year term which concludes Nov. 2022.

Erasmus resigned as he has now moved away.

Two of the candidates, Penner and Leclerc, are former trustees while Lambright ran for a spot on the board in 2018 when full elections were held.

The deadline to file nomination papers was Jan. 29 but candidates can withdraw up until 4 p.m. Feb. 5.

Voting day is March 6 but there are two advance voting days, Feb. 29 and March 3.

And because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a provincial ministerial order requested by the school district has been granted to allow for mail-in balloting.

The new trustee will take office in April, allowing time for the vote to take place, for it to be certified and for spring break to have finished.

There are seven trustees on the Coast Mountains school district board — two representing Terrace, one representing Thornhill, two representing Kitimat, one representing the Hazeltons/Kitwanga and one representing Stewart.
