THE BODY of a second mushroom picker missing east of Terrace has been recovered.
Devlin Michael Sabo, 32, was found today at around 9:15 a.m. after an extensive search began Monday afternoon when another man, missing with Sabo since Sept. 22, walked out of the bush.
Ike Murray, 26, was found by a CN worker working on company tracks in the area.
Terrace RCMP have confirmed that the body of Sabo was located by Terrace Search and Rescue early this morning approximately six kilometers up Fiddler Creek near the Skeena River.
"Our condolences go out to the Sabo family. It was very important that we find Devlin to bring closure to this tragic set of events," said Terrace RCMP Constable Angela Rabut in a statement.
Sabo and Murray were reported missing Sept. 22 when they did not return to a scheduled meeting point after a day of picking mushrooms in the Lorne Creek area on the north side of the Skeena River east of Terrace.
"They hunkered down in an area that was not included in the massive search that followed over the next seven days. After a week the pair made the decision to hike out. Devlin soon lost strength to continue. Ike stayed with Devlin till his death then managed to hike for two more days and finally hit the railroad tracks where he was shortly discovered by CN," said Rabut.
The pair had a fire for the first week, said Rabut, speaking later this afternoon.
The matter has now been turned over to the provincial coroners service.
