A gentle prod by Skeena-Bulkley Valley NDP MP Taylor Bachrach two weekends ago has restored payphone service at the Rosswood General Store.

During a trip up Hwy 113 to attend the Nisga’a new year Hobiyee celebrations in the Nass Valley, Bachrach stopped at the store to check on the status of the payphone on a post outside the building.

He became aware of a problem with the phone while campaigning during last fall’s federal election when a constituent he called “Old Bob” raised the issue.

But after hearing nothing but static, Bachrach took to a high tech communications method — Twitter — to ask that Telus repair the payphone.

“We thank Mr. Bachrach for his tweet this weekend, drawing our attention to this payphone that doesn’t appear to be in good working condition,” Telus then said in a statement.

And by Feb. 25, the company had sent someone to check things out.

“A technician visited the payphone in Rosswood earlier today and was able to fix the line, so it’s back up and running,” another Telus statement of that day indicated.
