Police busy with accidents, assaults and intoxication on long weekend

Terrace RCMP take care of many people having difficulty with drinking and driving or problems with each other

TERRACE RCMP responded to approximately 202 calls for service from August 2, 8 a.m. till August 6th, 8 a.m.

During the same time period, there were 32 people lodged in Terrace Cells – 22 of these people were lodged for public intoxication.

Here are some of the calls responded to:

A woman accidentally locked her six-month-old baby in her vehicle on Hall St. Police attended immediately but the woman had already rectified the situation by smashing out the window of her vehicle to get access to her baby. Emergency Health Services attended and assessed the baby who was fine.

A white 2000 Oldsmobile crashed into a grey 2012 Honda on Hwy 113 near Rosswood. Emergency Health Services transported the three-year-old passenger of the Oldsmobile and the 50-year-old driver and two passengers ages 46 and 21 from the Honda to Mills Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed. The 41-year-old driver of the Oldsmobile was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Under investigation.

A red 1999 Ford F350 truck crossed the centre line on Hwy 16 near Copper River and smashed into the side mirror of a grey 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and its fifth wheel. The Ford went over the embankment on the west side of the road and rolled twice. The 24-year-old driver and the 22-year-old passenger were both trapped in their vehicle and were extracted by Fire Rescue and Emergency Health Services. They were both transported to Mills Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The 53-year-old driver of the Chevrolet and two passengers, ages 15 years and 13 years, were uninjured.

Break and enter to a residence on Walsh Ave. sometime between 6 p.m. August 2 and 10 a.m. August 3. Stolen were: Sony digital camera, Ricoh digital camera, Casio digital camera, Microsoft webcam, and liquor.

Domestic assault in Gitaus. A 43-year-old man was arrested and a charge of assault is being forwarded to Crown Counsel.

Two pedestrians were struck in a crosswalk on Keith Ave. at Tetrault St. A 2012 black Ford Edge was turning right onto Keith Ave from a parking lot on the north side of the street and failed to see a 43-year-old woman pushing a 19-year-old man in a wheelchair. No injuries. Minor damage to the wheelchair.

A grey 2011 Dodge Caravan and a Green 1994 Toyota Tercel crashed at the corner of Hwy 16 and Eby St. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. No injuries. The Dodge was travelling eastbound on Hwy 16 and attempted to make a left turn onto Eby St. when it was struck by the Toyota travelling westbound on Hwy 16.

A red 2006 Ford was pulled over on Hwy 37 at Krumm Road for going 118 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone. The 19-year-old driver had a class 7 N driver's license. He provided a sample of breath that showed alcohol in his system. He was issued a driving prohibition.

Domestic assault at Pine Lake. An intoxicated woman left in a blue 2002 Chrysler Neon. Police located the vehicle. The 18-year-old woman provided two samples of breath into a roadside screening device that resulted in fail. She was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition. She was also arrested for assault. A 20-year-old man was also arrested for assault.

Suicidal 25-year-old man threatening to jump off bridge. Police located the man and spoke with him. Unsubstantiated. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Prince George and is held for court.

Police observed a woman punch a man at the intersection of Greig Ave./Emerson St. Checks determined the woman was on conditions to not consume alcohol. Police arrested the 23-year-old intoxicated woman for breach probation and assault. Charges are being forwarded to Crown Counsel.

Numerous calls of a domestic assault in Gitaus. A woman was observed to have significant injuries to her face. A 36-year-old man was arrested for assault and charges are being forwarded to Crown Counsel.

A white 2002 Dodge Dakota truck was checked in a road block on Hwy 113 near Deep Creek. The 32-year-old driver was prohibited. Charges of driving while prohibited are being forwarded to Crown Counsel. The vehicle was impounded.

Police attended to a single vehicle crash on West Kalum Forest Service Road at the 13 km mark. A black 1990 Honda Accord hit the ditch sustaining significant damage. The tow truck was already on scene. No injuries.

Police observed a black 2005 Ford truck attempt to turn around and avoid a road check on Westside Rd. The truck was unable to turn around due to its size. The 22-year-old driver provided a sample of breath into a roadside screening device which resulted in a warn. He was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition and the vehicle he was driving was impounded.

Man stranded on the Skeena River. His boat was anchored and the motor would not start. Terrace Search and Rescue were activated and the man was located. Police arrested the 53-year-old man for operating a boat while impaired. Charges are not being forwarded to Crown Counsel.

A red 2001 Chevrolet Silverado truck was pulled over on Hwy 16 near Munroe St. The 66-year-old driver provided a sample of breath into a roadside screening device which resulted in a warn. He was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition and the vehicle he was driving was impounded.

Theft from an unlocked black 2006 Toyota Tacoma parked on Mountainview Ave during the night of Aug 4/5. A satellite radio and cash were stolen.
