Two new offences have been added to the Terrace RCMP’s ‘Online Crime Reporting’ tool.

The tool is not meant to replace calling the RCMP for assistance but since January, people have been able to report some less serious crimes that may have gone unreported otherwise, like theft under $5,000, according to a Terrace RCMP press release.

Now, people can also report driving complaints and stolen license plates or decals at https://ocre-sielc.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/terrace/en. That means the public can report “general poor driving behaviour that includes speeding, distracted driving, or failing to follow road signs or signals.”

The full list of crimes eligible for online reporting are as follows:

- Lost property

- Damage/Mischief to property where the value is under $5,000

- Hit and run to property or an unoccupied vehicle

- Theft of a bicycle where the value is under $5,000

- Theft of other property where the value is under $5,000

- Theft from a vehicle where the value is under $5,000

Reports must not require follow up from a police officer, according to the press release. There must not be any witnesses or suspects and reports must not involve a firearm or personal identification, like a passport or drivers license.

Should someone require a more in-depth response and investigation the Terrace RCMP asks that people call (250) 638-7400 for non-emergency needs and 911 for immediate safety and hazard concerns.
