Patient transfer change plan scrapped

PLANS BY the Northern Health Authority to find a less expensive way of transporting people not in need of urgent medical care back and forth between its facilities has been unsuccessful.

Provincial ambulances now take people from Terraceview Lodge, for instance, to Mills Memorial Hospital for tests and then back again.

But the authority thought it could find a company that could do the job instead.

It did receive six proposals and shortlisted two but the proposed arrangements weren't considered viable, says a release issued this morning.

“Neither of the shortlisted proposals offered substantial improvement over Northern Health’s existing process for low-acuity patient transfers, particularly when looking at the full system of patient transfers across Northern Health,” said the release.

All patient transfers will continue to be done by the ambulance service.
