NORTHWEST COMMUNITY College president Denise Henning, hired in the spring of 2011, is leaving for a job in Alberta.
Henning's announcement that she was taking the job as president and CEO of Medicine Hat College in Medicine Hat was made this morning.
She starts her new position May 1, 2014.
"I have enjoyed my time here so much and am truly grateful to have worked with such a talented and dedicated group of people. It has been a great privilege to serve this institution and the communities of Northwest British Columbia,” wrote Henning in a message to the college.
Within a year of her starting at the college, Henning embarked upon program and service cuts and layoffs to cope with a budget deficit estimated to be in the $2 million range.
But she also oversaw an increase in the college's trades and technical programs, gathering in money from the provincial government and corporations to purchase new equipment and place the college in a position to better train residents for jobs with large industrial projects.
