Northwest BC lottery winner recognized in provincial legislature

Bob Erb of Terrace, BC has donated to local and other causes

LOCAL LOTTERY millionaire Bob Erb was recognized by Skeena NDP MLA Robin Austin the provincial legislature Feb. 14 for donating portions of his win to local and other causes.

He determined almost immediately that he didn't need $25 million and that it had to be shared not just with family and friends but with the whole community of Terrace, his home for over 40 years,” said Austin of Erb during the portion of the legislature's afternoon session reserved for member statements.

Austin listed some of Erb's donations to groups such as the seniors' Happy Gang Centre, the Ksan House, Choices, which operates group homes for adults and the soup kitchen operated by an arm of the Terrace and District Community Services Society.

Austin also mentioned Erb's financial backing of a campaign to legalize personal marijuana possession.

In BC that's taken the form of Sensible BC, a group which wants the issue to go to a referendum.

If passed, the referendum would have the provincial government, through legislation, redirect the RCMP and municipal police forces from taking any action, including searches, seizures, citations or arrests, in cases of simple cannabis possession by adults.

This cause is dear to his heart,” said Austin of Erb.

Bob's generosity will leave a lasting legacy for the people of Terrace, and I'd like members of this House to join me in thanking him for all he has done,” said Austin.
