New COVID-19 cases increase in Terrace

There were 29 new COVID-19 cases in the Terrace local health area (LHA) between Mar. 14 and Mar. 20, according to the latest data published by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). That is six more cases than the previous week.

The Terrace (LHA), which includes Kitselas, Thornhill, and Kitsumkalum, had an average daily rate of 15.1 to 20 cases per 100,000 people.

There were four new cases in the Nass Valley. Those BCCDC figures for the Nass Valley may not match numbers self-reported by the Nisga’a Valley Health Authority (NVHA), due to differences in how the two organizations track cases.

In the Prince Rupert LHA there were 113 new cases, five on Haida Gwaii, and 20 in the Kitimat LHA. The province vaccinated just fewer than 10,000 people in Prince Rupert between Mar. 14 to Mar. 21 to combat the rising number of cases in the area.

In the northwest, Prince Rupert, Nisga’a, Kitimat, and Upper Skeena LHA’s all have an average daily rate of greater than 20 cases per 100,000 people.

The BCCDC listed a COVID-19 exposure for Air Canada flight 8245 from Terrace to Vancouver on Mar. 16. affecting rows 1-7, and 11-20.

Around 850 people booked appointments for Terrace’s phase two vaccination clinic at the Terrace Sportsplex this week, which started offering the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for seniors over 80 and Indigenous people over 65 years on Mar. 23.
