NDP leader candidates return to Terrace

Terrace residents will have a chance to meet with the future leader of the provincial New Democrat Party next week.

Candidates vying for the BC NDP leadership position will be in town April 6 for an all candidates debate. The party has been setting up debates around the province, with different topics in nine different communities, and Terrace's theme centres around jobs.

The candidates will speak on the topic, there will be time for a few questions, and the night will end with closing speeches from the candidates.

The BC NDP top spot became open after leader Carole James resigned from the position last December. New Westminster MLA Dawn Black is acting as the interim leader until the party's leadership convention takes place April 17.

There are five people eyeing the leadership position: Vancouver-Kingsway MLA Adrian Dix, Port Coquitlam MLA Mike Farnworth, Juan de Fuca MLA John Horgan, Dana Larsen, and Powell River-Sunshine Coast Nicholas Simons.

The debate tour kicked off in Surrey March 20, with the final one here next week at the Best Western. The event is free and open to the general public, running from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
