RCMP in Terrace have responded to almost 200 calls since the start of 2019, with 48 occurrences on New Years’ day and 91 this past weekend.
Below are some highlights:
On Jan. 5, around 3:30 a.m., police were notified of a broken window at a business downtown on the 4600 block of Lakelse Ave.
Video footage showed that the damaged window was a result of two people fighting. Investigation is ongoing.
Snow plow injury
A man is suffering from leg injuries after getting hit by a snowplow when exiting a vehicle on Kofoed Dr. in Thornhill on Jan. 5 around noon. RCMP officers were called to the scene where EHS was already treating the injured person. Investigation is ongoing.
RCMP received a call around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 6 involving an intoxicated man trying to take a vehicle on the 2400 block of Tetrault St. Another complaint was made that the same man had returned to the scene and was fighting.
Officers located the man using a Police Service Dog after he took off on foot and attempted to hide. He was arrested for offences, including breaching his probation order and obstruction.
Three incidents occurred over the weekend involving intoxicated driving that all resulted in vehicle impoundment and driving prohibition. One of which include an N driver vehicle on Lakelse Ave. near Clinton St. that was observed speeding and carrying too many passengers. Blood alcohol content exceeded .08, leading to a 30-day vehicle impoundment, 90-day drive prohibition and tickets for driving contrary to restrictions.
Nine people were arrested and lodged in cells to sober up safely this weekend. On Jan. 4, four of those arrested were also in for disturbance related offences, one of which breached a no-contact condition.
Two men were arrested in relation to domestic disturbances over the weekend. Investigations are ongoing.
