One man was fatally shot in a standoff that took place over the weekend in Thornhill.

Samuel Ratchford has now been charged with second degree murder and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Feb. 8.

RCMP, in a statement released today, said officers responded to a shooting in progress at approximately 12:30 p.m. Jan. 30.

Upon reaching the crime scene, the police found a man, identified to be Dillion Loehndorf, suffering from a gun shot wound and immediately began providing first aid until paramedics arrived. Loehndorf later died at the scene, the police said.

“Terrace RCMP were able to respond to the initial report very quickly. After speaking to witnesses they were able to identify and locate a suspect who, after several attempts to communicate with him, surrendered without incident,” Superintendent Sanjaya Wijayakoon of the BC RCMP Major Crime Unit said.
