A logging truck caught fire along Hwy 16, bringing out police and fire trucks from Terrace to douse the flames this morning.

The incident happened about 55 km east of Terrace and the driver managed to pull over into a pull out after he was alerted to what was happening by a driver behind him.

"My dad said the driver didn't know it was on fire and all my dad saw was sparks coming from underneath the truck so my dad did everything he could to get the driver's attention..Then once they pulled over, my dad helped him unhook his truck quickly enough so the flames didn't get the gas tanks or anything," said Erin Moore in a facebook message to the Standard.

Reports were that the Ministry of Transportation had gone out to the site to make sure the trees next to the highway wouldn't catch fire, and determined the foliage was safe.
