A LOCAL resident was killed in an accident outside Williams Lake when the truck he was travelling in was hit by a semi-tractor trailer Jan. 26.

Louis George Therrien, 36, had to be removed by the Jaws of Life from the pickup truck in which he was a passenger, and later died after being taken to Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake, said Williams Lake RCMP.

At about 7:30 a.m. Jan. 26, a northbound semi-tractor trailer unit crossed the centre line of Hwy 97 north of Williams Lake and crashed head-on into a southbound Dodge pickup truck, said police.

The driver of the pickup, also believed to be from Terrace, and the semi-tractor driver, who was on the way to Prince George with a load of general freight, had minor or no injuries, said Sgt. Robert Verbree, regional commander Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services out of the Williams Lake RCMP detachment. The regional coroner and police continue to investigate.
