A PENTICTON company has been awarded a $8.7 million contract to repave sections of Hwy16, the Nisga'a Highway and roads in Thornhill.
Peter Brothers of Penticton is expected in the area right after the May long weekend and should be here a major part of the summer.
Its project list includes major patching between the Tyhee Overhead and the Khyex River Bridge and from the Kasiks River Bridge to the CNR level cross on Hwy16 west of Terrace.
On the Nisga'a Highway, the section from Halliwell Ave. to Deep Creek will be partially rebuilt by using a technique called pulverize and pave.
A machine will grind down nearly a foot, creating a new bed for a new layer of asphalt.
One of the more visible projects will be redoing the section of Hwy16 from Walmart east to the Hwy 16/Hwy37 four-way stop.
This will be done using a grind and pave technique in which the top layer of asphalt will be removed and be replaced by completely new material.
Plans are to have this project done as soon as possible before traffic picks up once summer arrives.
And in Thornhill, approximately 11km of new surface will be put on 19 roads.
Roads in Thornhill are the responsibility of the provincial government because it is an unincorporated area.
