A LOCAL group will receive half of the money it needs for renovations to its building from a federal program.
Kermode Friendship Society will be given $5,000 to upgrade the Friendship Centre with new windows, as announced today by the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
The money, which is half of the total cost of the renovations, comes from the federal Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
More than $242,000 is being provided through the CIIF on the friendship centre renovation and four other projects in the Skeena-Bulkley Valley region including upgrades to the Hankin-Evelyn backcountry ski society, expansion of the community trail in the Village of Granisle, upgrades to the Moricetown Sports Fields, and conversion of the Burns Lake Band high school into a multi-purpose facility.
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public.
