Hwy 37 South re-opens after fatal crash this morning

RCMP say three people were taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

RCMP are investigating the cause of a two vehicle fatal crash on Hwy 37 South, which is re-opened to single lane alternating traffic.

On Friday January 13th at 9:49 a.m., Kitimat RCMP responded to a two vehicle crash on Highway 37 near Onion Lake, approximately 28 km north of Kitimat B.C.

Police and emergency personnel found one person deceased and three other people were taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a southbound Chevrolet crossed the centre line into the path of oncoming traffic and was struck on the passenger side by a northbound Toyota.

The police are working to determine the cause, and although the investigation is still in the early stages, police do not believe alcohol to be a factor in this crash.

The roads have been reported to be slippery with ice and snow.

Names are not being released at this time.

The highway is open to single lane alternating traffic.
