Host Bluebacks place second at regional swim meet

Swimmers achieve individual bests

It was the turn of the Terrace Bluebacks to play host to swimmers from around the region Jan. 27 to Jan. 29 and the home team came away with a second place finishing.

The Bluebacks collectively had 1,052.5 points with Prince Rupert placing first with 1,211 points. Kitimat gathered in 281 points and Smithers had 132.5 points.

Here are the highlights of the Bluebacks. Their ages are in brackets.

Individual Highlights (alphabetical order):

Meredith Acal (11)

- Finished second in the 400 freestyle

- Achieved a new ManSask “A” time (this is a qualifying time that makes you eligible to participate in Manitoba or Saskatchewan’s Junior Provincial Championships) with a 44.70 50 backstroke

Georgia Bergstreister (16)

- Finished second in the 200 breaststroke, 400 IM and 200 backstroke. Came third in the 800 freestyle

Laura Billson (16)

- Won the 200 backstroke. Came second in the 50 breaststroke. Finished third in the 200 IM, 100 free, 50 back and 50 fly

- Achieved new ManSask “A” times in the 200 IM and 50 freestyle

Matthew Block (17)

- Won the 200 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke. Finished second in the 50 breast and third in the 100 back

Kaylyn Braam (15)

- Finished third in both the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke

Logan Braam (12)

- Finished second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 breaststroke

- Swam new personal best times in all seven of his individual races

Maelle Calkins (10)

- Won the 200 breaststroke, finished second in the 50 fly and third in the 100 freestyle kick

Hillary Callahan (12)

- Won the 100 butterfly

- Swam new personal best times in all seven of her individual races

Kelly Choi (12)

- Won the gold aggregate (most cumulative points scored) in the 11-12 girls age group

- Won all seven of her individual events (200 free, 1500 free, 50 breast, 100 breast, 200 breast, 100 back and 200 back)

- Achieved a new 13-14 Swim BC Provincial Championship qualifying time in the 1500 free (18:27.91)

Paige Constantinescu (12)

- Won the bronze aggregate in the 11-12 girls age group

- Won the 50 back and 50 free. Finished second in the 200 IM and 50 fly

- Achieved new ManSask “A” times in the 800 free and 50 backstroke

- Swam new personal best times in all seven of her individual races

Caelyn Dalton (11)

- Finished second in the 100 freestyle and 50 backstroke

- Achieved her first ever ManSask “A” times in the 100 back (1:35.34), 100 free (1:22.42), 50 free (37.63) and 50 back (42.74)

Reed Downs (11)

- Won the gold aggregate in the 11-12 boys age group

- Won all seven of his individual events (100 back, 200 IM, 200 Breast, 50 free, 200 back, 50 back and 50 fly)

Julie Gardiner (14)

- Finished third in the 200 breaststroke

Theodore Gardiner (8)

- Finished second in the 25 breaststroke. Came third in the 100 free kick, 50 breaststroke and 25 butterfly

- Swam new personal best times in all seven of his individual races

Noah Grielens (13)

- Won the 200 breaststroke. Finished second in the 100 back, 50 free, 100 breast and 50 butterfly. Came third in the 100 freestyle

- Swam new personal best times in all six of his individual races

Xavier Grielens (10)

- Tied for the silver aggregate in the 10 & under boys age group

- Won the 400 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 100 breaststroke

Merik Hogg-Perry (12)

- Finished second in the 100 free kick and 25 butterfly

Maddex Homeniuk (12)

- Finished third in the 100 free kick

Amara Kirwin and Mckenna Kirwin (8)

- Combined on new best times in all ten of their individual events

Emma Kuirinlahti (16)

- Finished second in the 100 back & 100 breast and third in the 50 breast

MacGregor Lambright (13)

- Finished third in the 50 breast and 50 back

Osgar Leggat (11)

- Won the 100 freestyle kick

Seasmus McMurray (11)

- Finished second in the 200 breaststroke and third in the 25 butterfly

Abbegail Meijer (9)

- Swam new personal best times in all seven of her individual races

Brook-Lynn Meijer (16)

- Won the 100 backstroke. Came second in the 800 free

- Achieved her first ManSask “A” times in the 100 free (1:11.99) and 50 backstroke (38.32)

- Swam new personal best times in all seven of her individual races

Alyssa Metzger (11)

- Finished second in the 100 freestyle kick

Carlee Metzger (14)

- Won the 400 IM and 100 breaststroke. Finished second in the 100 freestyle. Came third in the 800 free, 100 free, 50 back and 50 fly

- Achieved a new ManSask “A” times in the 800 freestyle

Nevaeh Mumford (14)

- Won the 100 freestyle kick, came second in the 50 back and third in the 50 freestyle

Sienna Pretto (11)

- Finished third in the 200 backstroke

- Her first ManSask “A time with a 39.33 50 freestyle

Carter Primosch (13)

- Won the 100 freestyle kick, the 25 breaststroke and 25 butterfly

- Swam new personal best times in all seven of his individual races

Mia Ramos-Sanchez (10)

- Won the 100 freestyle kick

- Swam new personal best times in all seven of her individual races

Darien Sambo (14)

- Finished second in the 100 IM and 50 backstroke

Thomas Sambo (12)

- Came second in the 200 back, 50 back and 50 butterfly

Marlee Swan (14)

- Finished second in the 200 breaststroke

Easton Testawich (10)

- Won the 100 freestyle kick. Finished second in the 100 free and 25 fly

- Swam new personal best times in all seven of his individual races

Gabriel Ungehojer (13)

- Won the silver aggregate in the 13-14 boys age group

- Won the 100 free, 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 200 fly and 50 fly. Finished second in the 200 IM.

- Achieved new Swim BC Divisional times (qualifying times for participating in Swim BC’s Northern and Interior Divisional Championships) in the 200 IM (2:44.78) and 50 butterfly (33.94)

Oliver Ungehojer (15)

- Won the 50 butterfly. Finished second in the 50 back, 100 back, 200 IM, 400 IM and 100 free. Came third in the 50 freestyle

- Achieved a new ManSask “A” time in the 100 backstroke

Abrielle Weston (11)

- Won the 100 freestyle kick

River Wood (9)

- Finished second in the 100 freestyle kick

Sequoia Wood (13)

- Finished second in the 100 back, 400 IM and 100 breaststroke

- Achieved her first ManSask “A” times in the 50 free (34.80), 100 backstroke (1:25.97) and 800 freestyle (11:43.15)

Solstice Wood (11)

- Finished third in the 200 IM, 50 breast and 200 backstroke
