Horgan tours northwest

NDP leadership candidate John Horgan is stopping into Terrace today on his campaign tour.

The Juan de Fuca MLA and critic for energy, mines and petroleum resources will be meeting with party members at the Sandman from noon until 2 p.m. as part of his tour of the northwest.

He was in Prince Rupert yesterday, and will be in Smithers tomorrow.

Horgan is running against Port Coquitlam MLA Mike Farnworth, Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons, Vancouver-Kingsway MLA Adrian Dix, and former West Vancouver federal NDP candidate Dana Larsen.

The only other candidate to visit the area so far is Farnworth, who was here last month.

And while Stikine MLA Doug Donaldson has come out in support of Farnworth, Skeena MLA Robin Austin says he hasn't chosen a candidate to support.

I haven't decided yet,” he said, adding that it's important to hear from all the candidates.

The party will be holding a series of all-candidates forums throughout the province, with one in Terrace scheduled for April 6 at the Best Western. This is open to the public and the event will begin at 7 p.m.

The position became open after leader Carole James announced last December that she would be stepping down. The leadership election will take place April 17, 2011.
