SMART PHONE users in the north can now have tourism information at their fingertips, with a new application, travelnorthernBC, available for smart phones.

Free to download, the application is available to all smart phone except Blackberrys.

It provides a wealth of information to anyone visiting a community in Northern B.C., assisting with anything from

restaurants to a good place to kayak.

The recently launched project was a collaboration between the communities of Terrace, Prince Rupert, Smithers, Prince George and Dawson Creek, and includes information on every community in between these five cities as well.

Graham Genge from Kermodei Tourism said all of the communities involved share the common bond of promoting tourism in the north.

“We're really focused on regional collaboration,” he said.

Genge said the new face of tourism is social communication, and this application fits right in with a change in that direction.

He pointed out that the application benefits locals as well as it provides basic  information like bus schedules and directions, hooking up to a smart phone’s GPS to step-by-step guide someone to where they need to go.

“We really want this application to benefit travelers as well as communities and the people who live there,” Genge said.

Genge said the application can be found on the android market or i-Tunes online.
