Police briefs from the weekend of June 1 to 3

The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 142 calls for service from Friday June 1 to midnight June 3, 2018. Below are some highlights from the weekend calls:

Vehicle collisions

A rollover in Thornhill and an intersection crash in Terrace saw three vehicles towed, but no injuries reported.

On June 1, around 6:20 a.m., police responded to a vehicle rollover reported on Haaland Avenue near Crescent Street. Three people were located near the vehicle. The driver received violation tickets for driving contrary to restriction and speed relative to conditions as it had been raining at the time.

Around 3:35 p.m., a crash occurred at the intersection of Keith Avenue and the Sande Overpass involving a vehicle going straight and a vehicle turning left.

Windows smashed on Queensway

A vehicle and building were damaged on the 4500 block of Queensway Drive June 1 overnight. Nothing appeared to be taken. Police attended and investigated.

Front door set on fire

A woman was arrested and released on a promise to appear in court following a fire on Simpson Drive.Around 4:35 p.m., June 2, police were called to a residence on Simpson Crescent in Thornhill for a report of a fire from the night before. A fire had been set to the front door of the residence during a party. A suspect was arrested.

Man arrestable for assault

Police are looking for a man involved in an assault Saturday afternoon. Around 1 p.m., June 2, police received a report of an assault involving a group of people drinking behind a business on the 3100 block of Kalum Avenue. No injuries were reported. The accused was gone when officers arrived, but was known to those present. Police are investigating.

Intoxicated man assaulted

Around 7 a.m. on June 3, an intoxicated man was located near Elks Park with blood on this face and injuries consistent with an assault. He was taken to hospital. Police are investigating

Impaired driving

A woman lost her license for 90 days after being pulled over after failing to stop for a stop sign.

On June 3, around 2 a.m., a police officer patrolling the area of Desjardins Avenue near Hwy 16 stopped a van after it ran a stop sign on Thornhill Frontage Road. After speaking to the driver, a roadside breath test was administered, in which the driver blew a ‘Fail’ indicating she had more than .08 blood alcohol content. Her vehicle was impounded for 30 days and she received a 90-day driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Just half an hour later around 2:30 a.m., a second vehicle was impounded for impaired driving.

Police stopped a vehicle swerving in its lane on Hwy 16 near Ferry Island. A roadside breath test was administered and registered a fail, resulting in a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound.

Domestic disturbances

Police responded to four reports involving domestic disturbances over the weekend.

In one of them, a man is arrestable for breaching his no-contact orders related to a domestic assault file. Another man was arrested for assault in an unrelated domestic incident. Officers attended two verbal domestics as well.

Public disturbances

There were approximately 22 disturbance-related files from Friday to Sunday, most involving public intoxication.

On June 1, five of the files were related to one man, who was arrested twice in 24 hours and held to sober up safely. Calls on Friday were received for the 4600 and 4700 block of Lakelse Avenue, the 2800 block of Hall Street, Lakelse and Emerson, Keith Avenue, and Kalum Street at Graham Avenue. Four people were held in cells to sober up safely. An intoxicated woman causing problems at two business downtown was arrested and found to be breaching no-consume conditions; she was held for court.

On June 2, seven people were arrested to sober up safely with police. Calls for service came from the 4700 block of Park Avenue, the 4600 block of Lakelse Avenue, Kalum Street near Haugland Avenue, the 4600 block of Keith Avenue, the 2800 block of Hall Street, New Remo, Keith Avenue, and other locations. In one occurrence, an intoxicated woman crashed a pedal bike in George Little Park. She was taken to hospital and later released.
