Food program ready to roll

Starting in June 2011 the Good Food Box program of Kalum Community School Society is open to public again. Everyone who wishes to take a part can buy a ticket at the library, the Family Place or at the new emergency shelter.

Starting in June 2011 the Good Food Box program of Kalum Community School Society is open to public again. Everyone who wishes to take a part can buy a ticket at the library, the Family Place or at the new emergency shelter.

The deadline to buy a ticket is June 2 and the pick up is June 9 at the health unit auditorium at 3412 Kalum St. from 6 to 7 pm.

Prices are $15 for a smaller student box of 20-25 pounds of produce and $30 for a larger family box of about 40-50 pounds of produce.

Families receiving income assistance can participate in the direct payment service and should complete a form at Ministry of Housing and Social Development Resources.

The Good Food Box is a once a monthly program and distributions are on the second Thursday of the month; deadline for payment on the first Thursday of the month.

A may distribution was held for participating agencies.

The Good Food Box program buys produce in large amounts at wholesale prices. Volunteers help pack the food into boxes. Basic items like potatoes, carrots, onion, celery, apples, bananas are included most the time. The Good Food Box can help you include more fruits and vegetables in your meals.
