A POWER outage this morning didn't stop the Terrace Churches Food Bank from opening as volunteers brought out the flashlights to make sure clients could get, and see, the food they wanted.
The food bank, located in the basement of the Dairy Queen building, was pitch black with emergency lights on and volunteers, including food bank president John Wiebenga, holding flashlights to light it up as much as possible.
The outage happened at about 9:29 a.m. according to BC Hydro spokesperson Dave Mosure and affects about 742 customers in downtown Terrace, he said.
As of about 10:27 a.m., the BC Hydro website still said it was under investigation which means the workers on site haven't yet reported what the cause of the outage is, said Mosure.
The areas without power include west of Kofoed Dr., east of Kenney St., south of Scott Ave. and north of Haugland, according to BC Hydro, although the south side still had electricity as traffic lights were still working and the Tim Hortons drive-thru on the south side was packed with those attempting to still get breakfast with the downtown Timmies in the dark.
BC Hydro has tentatively estimated that the power will be back on around noon today, Dec. 5.
