Sirens filled the air in Terrace this afternoon as fire trucks from the city and Thornhill raced to a fire on private property onJohnston Rd. in north Terrace.
The owner was doing some burning on a day where the ventingindex was fine for burning but the wind came up, said Thornhill fire chief Rick Boehm, there with a pumper truck and several men.
Sparks jumped a pile of dirt and brush and landed in the trees close by igniting a fire, he added.
The owner called 911 and started shovelling dirt onto the fire and had it under control by the time firefighters arrived, said city deputy fire chief Dave Jephson.
It didn’t take long for firefighters to extinguish the blaze, he added.
