TERRACE firefighters are pulling down the ceiling of a single-storey Walsh Ave. residence this morning, checking that a blaze is out.

Neighbours reported fire shooting out of the front room window of the empty house and smoke drifting along the street at approximately 7:30 am.

Terrace Fire Department Lt. Dave Jephson said the call to 4809 Walsh Ave., a block and a half away from the fire hall, came shortly after 7:30 am.

"Fortunately the house was empty," he said. "The street was full of smoke when we turned the corner."

"We were able to contain it to the front part of the house," Jephson said of the blaze.

The owners of the house have been trying to sell it and there's a for sale by owner sign beside the driveway.

Jephson said it was too early to tell what caused the fire.

Also at the scene were RCMP officers and an ambulance.
