Fire destroys home at Thornhill trailer park

No injuries reported

Thornhill Fire Department found a trailer fully engulfed in flames on July 21 when responding to a fire at the Pine Park Mobile Court just before noon.

Fire chief Rick Boehm said there was a ‘very audible’ domestic matter happening outside the situation.

Video reviewed by The Terrace Standard appears to show a man threatening to burn down the home during an argument with a woman.

“I can’t speak to the nature of what they were yelling and screaming about,” Boehm said, adding there is no risk to the general public and there were no injuries to report.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and arson hasn’t been ruled out. Boehm said a plume of smoke from the fire was visible as soon as firefighters pulled out of the station heading in that direction.

“Our fire hall is less than one kilometre away and we were fully staffed at the time, so (the response) was crazy fast.”

“There was really not a viable situation for entry at that time and mobile homes are spaced pretty close together. The primary fire was causing significant damage to the neighbouring homes,” Boehm said.

“So, we protected the neighbouring homes first, then extinguished the primary fire shortly thereafter.”

Boehm is reminding residents to test their smoke alarms, practise their escape plans and make sure they’ve got everything ready to go in case of a fire. “Mobile homes burn very fast and it’s quite shocking.”
