Starting today, members of the public can provide their feedback on the proposed floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) project on lands owned by the Nisga’a Nation.

Called Ksi Lisims, the project would be located 15 kilometres from the Nisga’a village of Gingolx at the mouth of the Nass River at a location called Wil Milit, a 114-hectare site owned by the Nisga’a Lisims Government. At a planned 12-million tonnes of LNG a year, Ksi Lisims would have a projected 30-year lifespan.

Now, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) and B.C.’s Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) are inviting members of the public to provide feedback on the project during the initial phase of the project’s review.

The comment period lasts 45 days, starting Aug. 10 and ending Sept. 24, 2021. According to the IAAC, feedback will help form a joint summary of issues and engagement document, which will then be provided to the Nisga’a Nation and its partners, Rockies LNG Limited Partnership made up of natural gas producers in B.C. and Alberta and Texas-based Western LNG LLC, which consists of former senior executives of various LNG projects looking for their first facility. The document will inform the next steps in the assessment process.

The IAAC and EAO are holding two virtual engagement sessions, which will feature presentations from the project’s proponents, information on the review process and opportunities for people to ask questions online.
