Members of the public ended up helping Terrace RCMP with the arrest of a man this afternoon who fled into a wooded area of the Bench after a white pickup truck was involved in at least two collisions.

While the driver was taken into custody, a female passenger was taken to hospital for medical treatment for reasons not yet disclosed.

Police say reports started to come in at approximately 1:55 p.m. this afternoon of a white pickup truck driving erratically.

“The vehicle was driven by a man with one woman as the passenger. The driver caused at least two reported collisions, both involving extensive damages to property,” a police statement indicated.

“The vehicle was reported to have stopped at numerous local liquor stores and eventually made its way to a rural area on the Terrace Bench where witnesses reported seeing the driver flee into a wooded area.”

“Members of the public pursued the man and upon the arrival of RCMP, assisted with the arrest,” the statement indicated.

Following his arrest, the man was kept in custody pending a bail hearing.

“No members of the public were reported to have been injured,” police added. The investigation is continuing.

There is a witness report of a truck striking the outside of the Skeena liquor store, causing bottles to fly off a shelf inside.

Anyone with further information is directed to contact the Terrace RCMP at 250-638-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
