A DRIVER who struck a local family’s vehicle outside Prince George late last year has been charged with two Motor Vehicle Act offences.

The two charges against the driver were speeding relative to road conditions, which carries a fine of $167, and failing to keep right, which carries a fine of $109.

The accident sent Terrace sisters Rheann and Celin Armes to hospital with broken backs and their mom Karen Millard to hospital with several injuries including a broken arm that required surgery, after a minivan crashed into their car as they travelled east on Hwy16 to Prince George in November.

At the time of the accident, police said the road conditions were icy and slushy.

“It was a really bad night to be driving,” said RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass.

In December, Karen said Rheann moved from hospital in Vancouver to GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre for recovery and was learning how to cope with getting in and out of a wheelchair.

Karen said Celin was walking with a back brace.

Participants at Christmas parties organized by the Classics Old Timers Hockey Club raised $4,700 for family expenses.

A coffee house near the end of the year brought in $870 and a New Year’s Eve dance featuring the Soul Professors raised a further $5,000.

There is also a ‘Hearts for Rheann’ project underway at Skeena Junior Secondary School to raise additional monies.
