TWO DOGS are set to be destroyed after they attacked and injured a child to the extent she required surgery.

The two bull mastiffs bit a four-year-old child as she was playing outside on the property January 18, said police in a release today

The dogs, who were in a separate enclosure, wounded her arm and head when they pulled her arm and torso through the fencing, said police.

Paramedics rushed the child to Mills Memorial hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

The two dogs were relinquished by the owner to Thornhill animal control and are to be destroyed.

There is no further action being taken by police at this time.
